The 200k Project: An Unrealistic Goal

There was another blog going for a little while called the 200k project in which a 2+2er wanted to turn 1k into 200k in 60 days. After 7 days he went busto and gave up. It seems stupid to set unrealistic goals and risk ruin to reach them. He was planning to move up in levels when he had 7-8 buyins for that level (good BR managment suggests 20 buyins). I have seen numerous projects like this and they all work out the same way… the poster always runs hot then hits a cold streak and goes busto.

So you might be asking yourself if I am being hypocritical. The answer is no. Why? Because I always play within my BR and set attainable goals. Even though I have gone from $12 to $300 in about two months, I am not moving my goal date forward. I will move down if I hit a downswing. I understand that I am probably running hot right now and my results are not sustainable.

It shame to see this keep happening. Had the OP maybe started at 50NL instead of 100NL and moved his goal date out to say 90 or 120 days the project could have been very interesting to watch as it progressed.

Moving on up

I hit +$150 at $.25/$.50 today, so I’m moving up to $.50/$1.

6279 Hands at .25/.50 FR: +$109.65
892 Hands at .25/.50 6max: +$41.50

Current BR: $303

You Know You Have Too Much Money When…

… you do 3k flips… over and over and over again.

So a few of the high rollers on FT started to do 3k flips and about 40 minutes ago and they are still at it. They have been 3-4 handed most of the way. For those not it the know, flips are when you push allin preflop regardless of your cards. Its kinda sick to watch.

I started watching about 20mins ago and its kinda ridiculous. In watching I saw one guy drop about 35k and another win around 40k. Some might argue that this is balla, but to me its just plain stupid. Then again, watching people be stupid can be entertaining.

Switching to 6max

Looking forward PS and FT together don’t spread 6 tables of full ring .5/1 at the same time. Seeing as I 6-table this poses a problem. I have, however, been reading up on 6max play and see how I have less then 100BB at the current level before I move up, I decided to move to 6max tables. If I am successful at 6max tables, then all will be good. However, if I have problems I might have to re-evaluate my decision.

Week in Review

I had a pretty good week at the tables since switching to Full Tilt.

6279 Hands at .25/.50
This Week: +$109.65
Current BR: $261.50

So only $38.50 until I move up to .50/1

The Jimmy Rides Again

I play in a $.05/.10 NL home game on Friday nights and our favorite hand is the Jimmy 42o. We have some history with it as it cracks almost anything it faces.. The Jimmy is in fact the new AK… Anyways, this happened to me today.

LOLwebcomicaments

I just had this poker themed web comic pointed out to me, and its actually pretty funny. I might have to spend time reading the archives.

Moved to Full Tilt Today

My funds hit my epassporte account today and into my Full Tilt account they went. I played ~1700 hands of .25/.50 Limit today and made about $6. A .69BB/100 day was not what I was looking for, but its better than a loss. I also generated about $4 in rakeback.

I had some problems with the FT interface not making alert sounds. It happened near the end of my night so I didn’t really worry about it, but I hope to get that fixed soonish. I also dislike the fact that I can’t resize FT tables like I can on PS. I heard that I can get an AHK mod to fix this, I try and get that working by the end of the week.

The Story So Far…

Back in December I had some spare time and a dream… to turn not so much money into lots of money through online poker. I had previously played online but not very serious (just bonus whoring and the such) and wanted to take poker a little more seriously.

Some self restraint info… you can tl;dr this if ya want
Before I even started however, I would have to set some ground rules. I promised myself that I would practice good bankroll management. Since I wanted to start with limit I told myself only move up when my BR hit 300BB for the next level up. I would move down if my BR ever dipped to 200BB of the current level. I would not add anymore outside money to my account once I started except for bonuses and rakeback. I wouldn’t take any money out of my BR for at least a few months.

So I had my friend transfer me $12 on Stars, gave him $12 in RL and started grinding $.02/$.04 limit (Stars’s lowest stakes limit game). I also have PT and PAHUD from earlier poker-ings to track my stats.

To date I have grinded up to $151.85
5,393 hands at .02/.04: +$18.00
3,900 hands at .05/.10: +$30.64
15,472 hands at .10/.20: +$91.21

I have 27% Rakeback at Full Tilt so I’m moving my funds there (I think FT’s RB outweighs PS’s VIP program at this point). I set up an epassporte account last week so I can transfer funds between sites and am now waiting for my PS cashout to hit.

My Goal: $1800 by the end of the year so I can play $3/$6.
